A message from our Principal

Kia ora e te whānau,
Term 3 has started off in a settled and positive way, with classes engaged and focused on their learning. This term, our school-wide focus is Environmental Education and Sustainability. We hope some of the key messages will start to trickle home and spark conversations about how we can all take action to look after our environment.
Over the break, our staff took part in First Aid professional development and began the term with a focus planning and learning design linked to the Maths curriculum refresh.
Next week, we look forward to welcoming you to our Learning Conferences – a great opportunity to connect with kaiako and hear more about your child’s progress and learning journey so far. Please note school finishes at 2pm on Monday 21 July. If you need supervision for your child please let the office know. office@welbourn.school.nz
As part of our strategic planning, we’ll soon be seeking your input into the future direction of our school. A short survey will be sent via email, and we encourage you to have your say – your voice is a valued part of our decision-making.
A gentle reminder about attendance: the Ministry of Education’s goal is for all tamariki to attend school at least 90% of the time across the year. We know that even the odd day here and there can add up and have an impact on learning. Your support in this area makes a big difference.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education – it’s appreciated and valued.
Ngā mihi nui,
Bonnie Mills

Cookie Time Fundraiser - H&S are fundraising to help with funds for the new Open Classroom and we are kicking off our efforts with a Cookie time Fundraiser. Forms will go out with tamariki so keep an eye out in the school bag. The cookies are the Original Chocolate Chip flavour, with 20 cookies per bag for $20. Forms are to be returned by Monday 21st July, and delivery of cookies will be around 2 weeks from then. Forms can be returned to the office with cash (please pop money in a labelled bag or envelope so we know who it belongs to), or you can return the form to the office and deposit the money into the Welbourn Home & School Association account on the order form. Please put child's name and room number on details. We encourage tamariki to be safe while fundraising so asking parents friends, family, neighbours, parents work , rather than door knocking is preferable.
BOT news - ERO report

We are pleased to share that our recent ERO report affirms the many strengths of our school. The report highlights the strong sense of belonging and inclusive culture, high-quality teaching, and the commitment of our staff to ensuring positive outcomes for all ākonga. We are proud of the purposeful learning environment and the clear focus on learner wellbeing and progress across the school.
As we move forward with the national Curriculum Refresh, our next steps include deepening our localised curriculum and strengthening assessment practices to support rich, meaningful learning. A continued focus for our school community is improving regular attendance, ensuring every child is at school and ready to learn every day.
We’d like to thank our whānau for their ongoing support and partnership. Your engagement, especially in our shared goals around attendance and wellbeing, makes a real difference. Together, we are creating a learning environment where every child can thrive.

School Board Elections

Every three years, all public schools in Aotearoa hold elections for their School Boards. The next elections will take place in 2025.
The School Board plays an important role in the running of our school.. While much of their work happens behind the scenes, it is vital. They write our strategic plan, consult with our community, manage school finances, and ensure that we honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in our kura.
Our board is made up of six parents, the Principal, and a staff representative elected by staff.
We’ve appointed Election Pilot as our Returning Officer. They will manage the election process and run it online. Election Pilot has supported schools with elections for over 20 years and has been the only Ministry of Education-accredited provider of online election services since 2022.
Nomination and voting forms will be sent directly to you by email from Election Pilot. If we don’t have your email address, they’ll post these to you, so no one misses out. Nominations open Friday 18 July and close Wednesday 6 August.
School Board elections must follow the Education and Training Act 2020 and the Education (Board Elections) Regulations 2022. Your name and contact details have been shared with Election Pilot only for running our school's election, as required by law. These details will be deleted 60 days after the election.
If you have any questions, you can contact Election Pilot at 0800 VOTENZ (0800 868 369) or election@electionpilot.nz.
We’ll keep you updated as we move through the election process. Our election date is Wednesday 10 September..
Here are two links for anyone interested in learning more about what’s involved in being on a school board. The first is a live webinar for aspiring board members this coming Tuesday 22nd July. The second provides helpful information about the role and the nomination process.
