Term 2 Week 2 2025
Welcome to Welbourn
Holly Zieltjes
Interschool with West End
Netball
On the 7 of May 2025 we had our very first interschool game against West End.
It was a very tough match! At the start it was a very close game. At the end of the first quarter the score was 3 to us, 1 to West End.
In the third quarter West End made a comeback and closed the game to 1 goal. The score was 7 to us and 6 to West End! We needed more goals in the final quarter.
The final score was Welbourn A team got 10 goals and West End scored 6. Our defence worked well.
The B netball team had a great first game. The final score was 16 to Welbourn and 3 to West End. Vie and Leah were the players of the day for their Welbourn teams.
Good job netball teams! Thank you so much for all the staff that made this happen.

Football
On the 7 of May we played inter school football against West End. The game started well for Welbourn with Arlo taking a lovely corner from the right to Dylan's head. Brody took a misplaced corner that bounced of the goalkeeper to Dylan then Isaac had an easy tap in off the keeper and in right on halftime.
In the second half, West End scored a well deserved goal from Reid after a little mistake from the defense line. Then Bow from West End had a chance at the left side then buried it bottom right corner. Then fulltime whistle blows.
Now the score was 2 - 2 so we went into extra time, which was an extra 10 minutes! Hearts were pounding and then Arlo clutched with a lovely goal to make it 3-2. Then Arlo put another great cross into the box on the back post for Dylan to head again to make us win 4-2.

Rugby
On Wednesday we played West End for our first Interschool. The game started with us scoring 4 tries. Then West End scored 3 tries. It was 34-17 at half time for us.
The second half started and we scored another try, and West End scored 4 tries. We were frustrated to lose such a big lead but we kept trying and persevering and won 73-38.
Both teams played really well and we made great tackles. In particular, we were better at passing on attack and running the ball, leading to lots of tries. West End did well at their tackling and defending us. Overall, it was an excellent start to the season.

Road Safety
Kia ora Whānau,
As we move further into the school year, we’ve noticed a significant increase in traffic around the school—especially during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. We understand that everyone is juggling busy schedules, and we appreciate your continued patience and care during these peak times.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our amazing Year 6 road patrol monitors, our parent volunteers, and staff members who support road crossing duties every day. Your commitment to keeping our tamariki safe is truly valued by us all.
We kindly remind our community that the speed limit outside schools is 30km/h during school hours, this is designed to protect our children as they arrive and leave school. Please ensure you're adhering to this limit and staying alert in these busy areas. More information about speed limits outside schools can be found here.
A quick reminder about safe and respectful parking:
Please do not park on yellow lines or in accessibility car parks unless you have a valid permit. These areas are in place to ensure visibility, safety, and access for those who need it most. Even quick stops can create dangerous situations for our tamariki and other pedestrians.
Ngā mihi nui (thank you) for your support in keeping our school community safe and respectful for everyone.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Bonnie Mills

An effective relationship building strategy which we think you may find useful- some of you will already be doing this we’re sure.
“TWO by TEN” . This is a formally researched way to ensure that the connection is positive and gives the children the feeling of security and connection they need.
For 2 minutes a day for 10 days stop, put all electronics off and away and talk, using eye contact with your child, actively listening to them. Consistency is the key. Not making it longer, but ensuring that it happens everyday.
Any questions or comments please feel free to email me at patriciag@welbourn.school.nz or pop in for a chat.
