From the Principal
Welcome Back to Term 2 We are excited to welcome everyone back for what promises to be a busy and rewarding Term 2. This term, our Year 5 and 6 students will be involved in interschool sports exchanges, and our winter sports season will also be starting. A huge thank you to all the coaches, managers, and volunteers who make these opportunities possible for our tamariki — we truly appreciate your support. We are also preparing for our upcoming ERO (Education Review Office) visit, which is a valuable opportunity to reflect on and celebrate our learning journey. A reminder that Tuesday 3 June is a Teacher Only Day — school will be closed for students on this day. Later in the term, we look forward to coming together to celebrate Puanga, a special time for reflection and new beginnings. We’re looking forward to a great term ahead! |

LISTENING
True listening with our children requires full attention and emotional engagement - not just waiting on your turn to speak. Listening in this way builds trust and connection. Nodding, eye contact and responding thoughtfully. Being device free is also important. You don`t need to always have an answer. Just acknowledge their feelings by saying "That sounds really frustrating" or "I can see why that made you feel sad/angry/happy". Silence - a long pause- after listening is also very powerful. It shows them that you are being thoughtful and it also gives them an opportunity to add some more detail.
At the same time, we are teaching our children the importance of this skill- a skill which requires patience, curiosity and empathy. Research tells us that our children learn what they live.

Attendance
The Importance of Attendance
Regular attendance at school is essential for every child's learning, progress, and well-being. Consistent and regular attendance is strongly linked to academic achievement, the development of important social skills, and positive relationships with peers and teachers.
At our kura, we’ve noticed a growing trend of whānau holidays being taken during term time. While we understand the value of family time and shared experiences, it’s important to be aware that absences during term time can impact a child's learning and sense of belonging in the classroom.
If your whānau is planning a holiday during the school term, please notify the school office in advance by email. This helps us keep accurate records and support your child’s learning where possible.
Let’s work together to support every student’s success by prioritising regular attendance.
